Psychotic disorders often follow an unpredictable course, with vulnerable individuals at risk of relapse, particularly if they cease taking antipsychotic medication. Timely identification of early warning signs allows patients and their clinical teams to take preventive actions, which might include reinstating medication, psychotherapy, social interventions, or a combination of these approaches. Prompt and accurate warnings are crucial.

The TRUSTING Project posits a tool for spontaneous speech that may provide critical insights into the likelihood of an impending psychotic episode. In this initiative, individuals at risk of psychotic relapse are encouraged to record brief speech samples regularly within a secure, remote electronic setting. These speech samples are then analysed using artificial intelligence to detect changes that may indicate emerging psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, or thought disorders.

Our objective is to develop a reliable, user-friendly app that individuals can use from their homes to receive alerts when speech patterns indicative of a potential relapse are observed. This tool aims to empower those prone to psychosis to manage their condition independently, potentially reducing or even eliminating the need for continuous antipsychotic medication.

In this endeavor, GAMIAN-Europe’s role is critical for ensuring the project’s success. As part of the Patients’ Representative Board, GAMIAN-Europe facilitates the dissemination of information and resources related to the TRUSTING Project. Our involvement ensures that the developments and findings of the project are communicated effectively to all stakeholders, particularly those directly affected by psychotic conditions, enhancing both the impact and reach of the project’s outcomes.
